After leaving the company in 1998, Foofwa began developing his own choreography and has since developed a dynamic body of work that includes descendansce (2000), an autobiographic-choreography on the history of the body on stage; Media ViceVersa (2002), onmedia and digital images; Perform.dancerun.2 (2003), on the relation between dance and sport; Injuria (2004), on the precarious situation of dancers; and Live & Dance (2005), which assimilates rhythmics with everyday movements.  Foofwa also has choreographed work for other companies, including Nederland Dans Theater II, Berner Ballet, and Ballet Junior of Geneva.
One of his latest works, Benjamin de Bouillis recieved huge acclaim in a recent performance in New York City at the The Baryshnikov Arts Center. The New York Times wrote: "Foofwa, even in this minor material, remains the kind of performer to whom I tentatively apply the word “genius.” How does he do what he does? What was it he just did?
